Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
– Acts 2: 46-47
What do you like best about your church?
These passages describe the first Christian church. I’ll be honest, I think about these two verses, a lot. Especially the ‘added to their number daily’ part. Then, I think, geez, what did those guys do to have a crazy amount of people join in their group of believers? What would that have looked like? It must have been awe inspiring to witness what God was doing among His people. It must have felt exciting, and meaningful and difference making.
Then I read it again and realized WE HAVE EVERYTHING WE NEED TO BE THAT KIND OF CHURCH. Let’s do a checklist here:
▪ 7 days a week: check.
▪ A ‘temple’ court: check (Trinity building or one of our homes).
▪ Bread/food: check.
▪ Joy in our hearts: check (I hope!)
▪ The Holy Spirit: check
▪ People who don’t know Jesus: double check!
We have everything we need here at Trinity to be an Acts 2 type of church.
Imagine with me, if you will, a church where everyone was in AWE of what God was doing through us, meeting together frequently to celebrate and share and to ADD to our numbers daily. To encourage each other and strengthen each other through prayer, His Word and the breaking of bread… Enjoying each other.
These types of powerful things can only happen through the power of all that Christ has done through us. We celebrate in His victory on the cross. We celebrate because Jesus changes everything in our lives. May we enjoy each other’s company, be glad and sincere in our worship and add today our numbers daily today and always.
Just imagine… what God could do through us if were an Acts 2 church.
What is one thing you can commit to this week to help guide Trinity towards being an Acts 2 type of church?
Dear Heavenly Father, we are in awe of you. Help us to be glad and sincere in our worshiping you and guide us to live our lives in a way that others who do not know you will want what we have… your great sacrifice for us. Amen.
