Palm Sunday

This post was originally published on TheCity

Palm Sunday is the time when we remember the triumphal entrance of Christ into Jerusalem. The people of Jerusalem shouted Hosanna which means “save us.”   Palm Sunday is the beginning of holy week.

I have been asked what  the colors mean on the current paraments (stoles and altar scarfs). The black at the bottom represents sin.  As the colors move up they are various purples and reds.  Purple represents royalty (Christ our King)  and the reds represent Christ’s suffering.  Then the bright red stripe with the white borders reminds us that Christs suffering and death makes us holy and we are forgiven.
